What is Driving Events Data?
Description
The Mobito driving events data provides anonymized insights into harsh driving behaviors, including harsh braking, acceleration/deceleration, sharp cornering (left/right), and crash events.
Data Source
The data is sourced by millions of vehicles globally from our vetted partners including:
Automotive OEMs; vehicles with embedded connectivity from the car manufacturer
Fleets with after-sales in-vehicle hardware telematics devices
Driving event types
Common event types used to characterize driving behaviour include:
Braking
Cornering (left/right)
Speeding up/ acceleration
Crash (while driving or parked)
Use Cases
This data enables road safety analysis, infrastructure planning, and driver behavior profiling.
Road safety: Helps road operators and municipalities identify high-risk road segments based on driving behavior and near-miss incidents, allowing for better maintenance planning and prioritization
Road infrastructure: Assists in planning and assessing the impact of infrastructure improvements on traffic flow and safety
Driving behaviour analysis: Supports automotive engineers in developing driver personas based on behavior patterns to inform the design of next-generation vehicles
Driving Events Data Schema
The following table provides the main data attributes that are available via the Mobito Driving Events Data Product:
Attribute | Type | Description |
unique_id | string | Hashed id for a vehicle rotating every few minutes up to maximum every 24 hours |
start_time | string | Timestamp at the start of the event (in UTC in ISO 8601) |
end_time | string | Timestamp at the end of the event (in UTC in ISO 8601) |
latitude | double | The latitude position of the vehicle at the start of the event |
longitude | double | The longitude position of the vehicle at the start of the event |
start_speed | integer | The vehicle speed at the start of the event |
end_speed | integer | The vehicle speed at the end of the event |
acceleration_direction | integer | The acceleration direction in degrees |
vehicle_type | string | The vehicle category (passenger, light van, heavy truck, bus, other) |
event_type | string | The type of the event (cornering_left, cornering_right, brake, speedup, crash_driving, crash_parked, etc.) |

Car brands and models
MOBITO offers multi-brand vehicle data. However, vehicle make and model details are available for only a limited portion of our total car park.
FAQs
How is a vehicle type defined?
How is a vehicle type defined?
A vehicle type is determined either through algorithms that analyze the make and model (e.g., VIN decoding) or through manual input within driver systems.
